Some songs define a time. When you hear a song from your teenage years sometimes the angst rolls in like a heavy fog and you are right back there. “Why do I feel this way? I’m not 14.”

Some songs transcend time. Admit it, do the Beatles songs feel like the ’60s or are they feel like, somehow, more?

Some songs speak to a new time, even if the time is way beyond their release date…

Times Like These

“Times Like These” by the Foo Fighters just did that for me this week.

The original studio version is a driving guitar-fest, with an interesting 7/8 intro before it goes into standard 4/4 fare.

Like many good fast paced songs, I challenge you to drive the speed limit while listening to this song. But then…it was more.

It’s times like these you learn to live again
It’s times like these you give and give again
It’s times like these you learn to love again
It’s times like these time and time again

If that doesn’t define 2021, nothing does.

Picking ourselves up after the lockdown dystopia of 2020.

It’s times like these you learn to live again

I visited my friends down in Wichita for the first time since 2019. My friend reached out and gave me a hug. “Wow, wait… we can do this?” Yes we can.

It’s times like these you learn to love again

Now its early Fall 2021 and here we go again. The system seems setup to drive to a panic; a lockdown may be inevitable, and could be worse this time. And no amount of vaccination seems likely to stop it (e.g. Israel).

It’s times like these you give and give again

It’s times like these time and time again

The acoustic version on “Skin and Bones (Live Acoustic)” is a laid back version for when you are tired at the end of the day. No longer driving, it fits that quiet time when the light is fading and already gone. And tomorrow we do it all again.

It’s times like these time and time again
